Looking for a great Organic Beauty Line – Try Treat Beauty

I feel like a space explorer who just found a new planet because I have discovered an AWESOME beauty line that is totally organic.  It’s called Treat Beauty (www.treatbeauty.com).

The philosophy of Treat Beauty is simple: find nature’s most beneficial active natural and organic food ingredients and craft them into products that are good for the skin.

Inspired by nature’s most delicious ingredients Treat uses food grade antioxidant and vitamin rich butters and oils.

They sell body lotions and have these mega-sized lip balms.    There are two products from their line that I am totally OBSESSED with right now.

Confetti Cake Lip Balm

Now I’m not typically a lip balm person, but the larger size makes it harder to misplace (which is what usually happens when I buy regular lip balms) and these smell SO GOOD!  Now, if you don’t like smells associated with yummy things (cake, fruit) then this probably won’t get you as excited as it gets me.   They have different scents, but I purchased the Confetti cake and LOVE it!  It absolutely makes my lips softer and a bonus is that I rub it on my cuticles or any dry patches on my knuckles and have seen immediate results with them.  I love products that can serve a multiple purpose – it makes me feel like I am getting my money’s worth.  I just drop the tube in my purse and I am good to go!  And did I mention it smells DELICIOUS?

Birthday Cake Hydrating Body Butter

*My birthday is coming up in about a week (shout out to my fellow Leos out there) so I decided to treat myself to the calorie-free version of a birthday cake with this body butter.  OMG – this is the perfect vanilla-lemony-buttercream scent.  It’s so good I swear there might be calories in it!   Besides the scent, the consistency of the lotion is not too thick which I personally hate.  And no one likes to slather a thick cream on their bodies in the middle of summer, right?  It spreads nicely and really leaves my skin feeling cool and hydrated, which is exactly what I look for in a body butter.  The fact that it’s organic and cruelty-free is just icing on the cake (sorry I couldn’t resist the pun)!

The brand also has lip scrubs, a cellulite cream (called Butter your Muffin – love their cheeky humor!) and a redness reducing cream so there is something for everyone.  Whether you want to “Treat” yourself to some of these products or are in the market for a unique gift for someone, I highly recommend this brand and these products.  Happy shopping, fellow beauty explorers!

**I realized at the time of posting this that the body butter is currently sold out!  However you can have Treat Beauty notify you of when it is back in stock.  Trust me, it’s that good!

What’s in my Beach Bag? Summer Packing Series #2

Are you ready to hit the beach?

Welcome back to the summer packing series!  Hope you enjoyed my first blog about how to pack makeup for vacation.  If you missed it, you can check it out here.  This post will talk about the essentials to keep in your beach bag so that you can be prepared for lots of beach/pool fun this summer!

To make my life easier, there are some staples that I pack into the beach bag at the beginning of the season, and leave in there so I can’t forget it!  I keep a lot of items in plastic zip lock bags to keep out sand and water.  Then I can just throw in towels and some snacks and we are good to go!

Sunscreens

There are several SPF products that have a permanent home in my beach bag.  First, I have fallen in love with Coola’s sport Guava Mango sunscreen spray SPF 50.  It’s organic, and smells so delicious it doesn’t even give a hint that it is sunscreen!  It is a chemical sunscreen so if you prefer mineral, I have another great one to recommend to you.  This other  sunscreen I’ve been loving is from the drugstore.  It is Australian gold Botanical sunscreen SPF 50.  This also has a fruity heavenly scent but is a lotion (mineral, so it’s great for those with sensitive skin).  To get the lowdown on SPF you can check out my other blog post here.  Now both of these sunscreens are ok to use on my son, but I do have another one I use for him from Thinksport.  Like the others, it’s broad spectrum, water resistant and is SPF 50+.  This one also smells great so sometimes I’ll use this for me also!  It’s a little thicker than the Australian gold lotion so sometimes it’s easier to use the other one.

Brush on Block – I spoke about this product in another blog.  It’s great to reapply SPF to your face on a daily basis.  It’s a powder and brush in one.  The powder has an SPF of 30, is broad spectrum and water resistant as well.  If you wear makeup when out in the sun, this is a great way to keep your sun protection in tact without messing up your makeup.

Lip protection – I found an awesome product from Supergoop called Shine on Lip Screen.  This is a gloss with SPF 50 to keep your lips protected in the sun.  You can wear it alone or right on top of your regular lipstick (this is how I like to use it).  Again, it’s a great way to get that sun protection in while keeping makeup looking fresh!

Bug Spray – Not sure about where you all are located, but here in NJ, mosquitoes are even more of a menace this season.  I really don’t like to use products with DEET, so I’ve found a product from OFF! that has another ingredient called picardin, which is a gentler alternative.

Deodorant wipes – I like to keep these on hand to freshen up after the beach if I am out somewhere without a shower nearby.  Pacifica makes these wipes that smell like coconuts.  It is so refreshing and they really work for me to not smell!

Baby Wipes– With a 5 year old, you never know what can happen, so I always keep a pack of baby wipes on hand.  They are in my car, at my house, and definitely in my beach bag!  Over the years I’ve tried many brands, but I always go back to the Huggies Natural Care.  They are gentle, have no fragrance and do not feel greasy.

Hand Sanitizer – Along with the baby wipes, whether you have kids or not, it’s always a good idea to bring hand sanitizer to the beach.  I use one I got as a freebee from work a while back, but Bath and Bodyworks has great travel sized ones and any drugstore will have some travel sized ones also.

Good book – I make pretty regular trips to my local library, so before my next trip I’ll run over and grab something that looks like a good beach read.  Lately I’ve been into suspense and mysteries, but let’s see what I find!

I hope you are enjoying your summer and happy packing for your next trip!  Stay tuned for the next installment of my summer packing series, which will be all about packing clothes!

Full Body Skincare 101: How to take care of the skin NOT on your face!

When we think of skincare, we usually are focused on our face, but it is so important to remember to treat the skin all over your body with the same care you use on your face!   Remember, our skin is our largest organ and makes up 15% of our body weight!  There’s too much there to neglect it!

Body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate the skin on our arms and legs.

Like our faces, the skin on our arms and legs can get dry and flaky and also get crepey as we age.  That is why you should follow an exfoliating regimen on your body the same way you would do on your face!  The best way to do this is with a good body scrub.  I love the Tree Hut body scrub in the scent Brazilian Nut.  The scent is delicious and this product is very affordable!  Sometimes I don’t like the tub in my shower, so I recently picked up Bath and Body Works clay body scrub in Almond & Vanilla.  It’s in a tube which makes it easier to use and travel -friendly.  And the scent of this one is AMAZING!  Once your skin is exfoliated, just as with the face, you want to make sure it is moisturized!  One moisturizer I am loving this summer is AHAVA’s body oil is the scent “Sea Kissed.”  (Which by the way is on sale now at Ulta!)  I could smell this all day!  This body oil sprays on and dries into the skin quickly so there is no greasy feeling when I use it!  On other days, I use Alpha Skin Care’s Renewal Body Lotion which has 12% glycolic acid.  This addresses any bumps I have on my legs and addresses crepey skin I am starting to see on my arms.  Because it has a glycolic in it I would not use it on a day you are going to the beach or right after shaving your legs.  It is a fabulous product for the body that really does a deeper exfoliation than just the scrubs and it does moisturize at the same time.

Give some love to the skin on your hands!

How about your hands and feet?

These are two areas that often get neglected but really need a little extra TLC to be looking their best!  As I’ve said in other blog posts, the backs of your hands can show signs of aging, so many of your facial skincare products should also be applied on the backs of hands, including your SPF.  Keeping my hands and cuticles looking good is always a challenge for me, but I recently discovered a phenomenal product by Deborah Lipmann called “Marshmallow Whipped Hand and Cuticle Scrub with AHA and BHA.”  Hello?  Did I hear marshmallow?  Enough said.  But seriously, aside from the sleek packaging of this, shiny black and white square jar, this product delivers not only a great scent but immediate results!    Follow with your favorite hand lotion (mine is the  AHAVA Time to Smooth Age Perfecting Hand cream with SPF 15) and you are good to go!

Finally, we need to keep the skin on our feet looking good, especially between our summer pedicures!  Walking in flip flops or on the sand can really do some damage to the bottoms of your feet.  Use your body scrubs on your feet a couple of times a week and once a day, use the Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Foot Cream.  This is my holy grail and the only cream that keeps my heels smooth, winter to summer!  I also use the Amope Pedi Perfect foot file, especially in the summer.  Being in flip flops and walking on beach sand, etc. can really do some damage to your heels.

So if you’ve been neglecting the skin on other parts of your body, it’s not too late to start giving it some love now!  I’d love to hear what all of you do in your bodycare routines!

How to Pack Make-up for Vacation: Summer Packing Series #1

What’s in my make-up bag on vacation?

Packing for any trip can be daunting, but how can you decide what make-up products are most important to bring on vacation without lugging your entire collection?  It’s important to think about the season, your destination and what you will be doing to help sort out what to bring.  Also, if you separate your products into categories as I have below, that can also help you stay on track.  I recently returned from a week at the Jersey shore, and want to share what I brought along.  It turned out to be the perfect amount of items; I didn’t forget anything and didn’t over pack!

Face

Most days I used the CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 followed by IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream SPF 50.  If I’m just going out to grab a coffee or for a walk and don’t want a full face of make-up, I just put on my Obagi tinted SPF 50 sunscreen lotion and go!  For more recommendations on SPF you can check out that blog post here.   For concealer, I use two – Maybelline Age Rewind and Tarte shape Tape.  The combination of these two in my undereye area is perfect!  I set the face with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye pores pressed powder.  It is very travel friendly and is great at keeping skin from looking oily and giving a flawless airbrushed look to the skin.  For bronzer I used NARS Laguna that I have in a palette with Hot Sand highlight.  The two in one is great for travel!  My favorite summer blush is Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in the shade “Tipsy.”  It gives the perfect corally-peach flush and it’s goof proof!  I never can put too much on.

Eyes

I brought one eye palette, the e.l.f. Mad for Matte 2.  This is a great travel-friendly size and has all the neutral warm shades I love that can make many great summery looks!  If I was going out to dinner, I’d do a whole look with it, but for a quick look, I’d just use a little light brown color in my crease and I’d be done!  If you want to know my other e.l.f. cosmetics favorites, you can check out that post here.  The elf palette has a black and dark brown color which can be used as eyeliner, but I also threw the Estee Edit Inside Track Eye Kajal in 02 Bold Bordeaux.  This is a double ended liner with the bordeaux color on one side (beautiful for green or hazel eyes) and a cream color on the other which I use to brighten my lower water line and inner corner of the eye.  This is the quickest and easiest way to make you look awake and alert.  (Another mini palette that’s great for travel is the Tartelette tease palette.  It has six shadows and is no bigger than a credit card holder.)  For my brows, I never leave home without Anastasia’s Brow Wiz.  For mascara, I am currently loving Tarte’s Maneater.  It’s not waterproof but I usually don’t care for waterproof formulas in general.  For my other favorite mascaras, you can check out this post.

Lips

I packed a couple of neutral options and one brighter option.  Tarte has a line of lipsticks called color splash lipsticks in a gorgeous turquoise tube!  I have the colors “Daiquiri” (coral) and “Sunkissed” (neutral pinky peach).  I also have my Kokie cosmetics liquid lipstick Lip Poudre in the shade “Infamous.”  For more recommendations on Kokie cosmetics, click here.  I brought one lip pencil that works with all the shades – it’s Urban Decay’s 24/7 glide on lip pencil in the shade “Liar.”  This is the softest, smoothest pencil I have used and it really helps to keep your lipstick from fading.

Tools

Of course my beauty sponge needs to come wherever I am!  As for brushes, I try to keep that simple too.  I have some travel brushes that I have had for years, but basically bring a couple of eye brushes, one to set powder and highlight, and one for blush/bronzer.

Ready to Go!

So there you have it!  I’ve worked to streamline the basics which really had me feeling organized and prepared for anything on my beach vacation.  Stay tuned for future blogs on packing  that will include packing clothes and beach bags for vacation!   Wherever you are headed this summer, I wish you happy packing and fun adventures!
